Tech Forum @ My Company

Today, I had a great opportunity to attend My company’s Tech Forum.  There were many great take aways from this. Platform being theme of this tech forum, I was really excited about knowing the upcoming/existing great platforms without any googling/Binging. Initial Key note had Joe wells, a distinguish software developer from our company, sharing his experience about 6 principles of being a distinguish Engineer. It was quite inspirational and motivational for any new engineer in software industry. Those 6 priniciples were

  • Stay Engaged
  • Work on important Problem
  • Keep Learning
  • Learn and Share from Others
  • Be Solution oriented
  • Use your un-structured Time.

Bonus: Love your Customer.

After this we had several good sessions: The one which i attended were:

1) NODE.JS : I went to the session with a mind set that this is another library which does wornders for us (as Jquery did) and I should know, being woring on Web applications. It turned out to be something different :). In really simple terms: its javascript at server Side. Sounded really interesting, Take away from the session was information on its capability, though it was presented keeping java audience in mind. Explored on this and the site provided a installable for windows. I am going to explore further and post my understanding and findings later. BTW refer their site http://nodejs.org/

2)No SQL: another interesting session where i was eagar to know about NoSQL, Is it again somthing, which is against MS and wanna kill SQL Server :p Again i was wrong (thankfully)…Fantastic topic and NOSQL will defintly help solutions to achevie specific requirements. Its completly new concept (not another RDBMS )..and provide big leaap towards building solution which is highly scalable and allow efficient read and writes with improved performance. Support and maintance of these kind of DB are really less (once it is set up).  Found really nice article on web about this

3)SPA (Single Page architecture). Great presentation and was mainly highlight capabilities and power of HTML5.The team did a good work to use this in an existing system and improved end user experience.

4) Web Sockets:Nice Demo (the best part of this session), but still immature . This is another specification of HTML5.(need to cross check this)

Was a great day and got enough to digest. 🙂
